CT Group students develop Solar Operated Mini Computer
Jalandhar, December 21, 2020: Combining the ideas of ‘portability’ with the ‘utilization of solar energy, a team of 5 students from B.Tech ECE, CT Institute Of Engineering, Management & Technology, South Campus Shahpur, namely Chandan Kumar Jha, Ajay Kumar, Daljeet Kaur, Baljeet Kaur and Gurwinder Kaur under the supervision of Dr Harjit Pal Singh, Assistant Director (Research & Innovation) have successfully designed and tested a working prototype of ‘Solar Operated Mini Computer’.
It is a portable computer which replaces the entire CPU of a desktop computer into smaller size with the help of Raspberry-pi.
Telling about the project, one of the students Chandan Kumar said, “It is compatible with all types of input-output devices that we usually attach to a CPU, such as, physical or virtual keyboard, mouse, monitor screen, microphone and speakers. However, it doesn’t need a huge space for its setup or a 220V (AC) electricity connection and it is very easy on our pocket too. It is a lightweight solar operated CPU (computer) that can be taken to any remote location without worrying about the availability of electrical supplies. This is an important application because our mobile phones can’t completely eliminate the need of personal computers/laptops and there is still a long way before our computers become pocket sized and self-sufficient for their charging needs.”
Manbir Singh, Managing Director, CT Group and Dr. G S Kalra (Campus Director) congratulated the students for taking keen interest in converting their ideas into useful working models and encouraged them to take their R&D interests further.
